4번 타자로 맹활약을 했지만 팀은 올해도 4강 진출에 실패했다. 이대호는 "개인 타이틀은 시즌 후반부터 관심없다고 하지않았는가. 큰 아쉬움이 없다"며 "포스트시즌 진출 실패만이 아쉽다"고 말했다. 롯데는 7년 연속 포스트시즌 진출에 실패했고 이대호는 프로 데뷔 후 한번도 가을 잔치에 나가지 못했다.
롯데의 어떤 점을 보완하면 4강을 갈 수 있을지 물었다. 이대호는 단번에 "자금만 있으면 된다. 올해 FA로 나오는 두산 김동주와 SK 이호준을 영입하면 되지 않겠는가"라고 말했다.
올 한해 고군분투하며 팀 타선을 이끌어 온 이대호는 중심 타선 강화를 아쉬워했다. 상대 투수들이 자신과의 승부를 피하기 일쑤였다.
이대호는 "김동주·이호준 선배와 클린업 트리오를 이룬다면 얼마나 멋지겠는가"라고 말했다. 이어 이대호는 "수근이 형이 내년에 더 잘할 것이다. 수근이형과 부상으로 두 달 정도 빠졌던 이승화가 1·2번에서 출루를 많이 하면 팀의 득점력은 더 좋아질 것이다"고 덧붙였다.
FA를 영입해 타선을 보강한다면 외국인 선수 2명은 모두 투수로 영입해 마운드를 더욱 높일 수 있다. 이대호는 손민한-장원준-송승준-최향남의 기존 선발들에 외국인 투수까지 가세한다면 롯데 전력은 몇 단계 업그레이드 될 것을 꿈꿨다.
롯데는 2003년말 유일하게 FA를 영입한 바 있다. 당시 거금을 풀어 정수근(6년 40억 6000만원)과 이상목(4년 22억원)을 동시에 FA로 영입했다.
이상구 롯데 단장은 최근 "FA로 나올 선수들 중 김동주와 이호준에 관심을 갖고 있다"고 말했다. 이대호의 바람대로 두 선수 중 한 명만이라도 롯데 유니폼을 입는다면 롯데로서는 큰 힘이 될 것이다.
