KIA·롯데, 2약으로 굳어질 조짐 지친 팬들, 집중적인 비난 성토 [데일리안 이상학 객원기자]29일 광주구장과 사직구장은 마치 다른 그림 찾기라도 해야 할 것처럼 비슷한 풍경을 연출했다. 원정팀은 홈팀을 무차별 폭격했고, 홈팀은 일찌감치 백기를 들었다. 홈팀의 무기력함을 멍하니 지켜보던 홈팬들과 경기장 분위기도 얼어버렸다. 이날 광주구장의 KIA는 LG에 3-9, 사직구장의 롯데는 삼성에 1-10으로 무기력하게 대패했다. 홈팀의 무기력함을 대변이라도 하듯 광주·사직구장에는 의미심장한 현수막들이 걸려 눈길을 끌었다. 광주구장에는 구장 신축을 촉구하는 현수막이, 사직구장에는 코칭스태프의 선수기용과 구단 프런트의 행정을 비방하는 현수막이 걸렸다. 이처럼 KIA와 롯데의 팀 분위기는 뜨거운 여름에 어울리지 않게 얼음장처럼 차갑게 식어버렸다.
▲ 2약으로 굳어지나 올 시즌 프로야구도 어느덧 개막한 지 약 3개월이 흘렀다. 이달 초까지만 하더라도 유례없는 순위다툼으로 안개정국이었지만, 이제는 서서히 순위 구도가 잡히기 시작했다. 그러나 애석하게도 KIA와 롯데는 순위다툼에서 낙오해 2약으로 굳어질 분위기다. 26승1무42패를 마크하고 있는 KIA는 6월 초부터 최하위를 도맡았다. 롯데도 6월 중순을 기점으로 힘이 부쩍 떨어졌다. 29승2무36패로 7위. 8위 KIA에 4.5경기나 앞서있지만, 6위 현대(32승34패)와도 2.5경기로 승차가 벌어지기 시작했다. KIA는 최근 10경기에서도 2승8패로 8개 구단 중 가장 좋지 않은 페이스를 보이고 있으며 롯데 역시 최근 20경기에서 7승13패로 완연한 하락세다. 기록에서도 KIA와 롯데는 2약이다. 가장 큰 문제는 역시 타격. 올 시즌 KIA와 롯데는 잔루 1·2위를 다투고 있다. 30일 현재, KIA가 1위(541개), 롯데가 2위(538개)다. 잔루가 많은 것이 꼭 나쁜 것만은 아니다. 그만큼 많은 득점 찬스를 만들었기 때문. 그러나 KIA와 롯데는 팀 득점에서 각각 7위(248점)·6위(270점)에 그치고 있다. 찬스를 많이 만들고도 제대로 살리지 못한 탓이다. 득점권 타율 최하위(0.214) KIA는 더 이상 말할 것도 없고 롯데는 득점권 타율 4위(0.274)에 올라있지만, 주자를 확 쓸어 담을 장타력이 부족한 데다 타선이 터질 때 한꺼번에 터진 경우가 많아 효율성이 떨어졌다. 그러나 KIA와 롯데보다 타격이 더 안 좋은 팀도 있다. 바로 삼성이다. 삼성은 올 시즌 주요 타격 전 부문에서 중하위권을 맴돌고 있다. 하지만 아직 순위다툼에서 낙오하지 않고 최근 조금씩 상승세를 타고 있다. 타격이 약하지만 마운드가 굳건하며 투타의 엇박자가 상대적으로 덜했다. KIA와 롯데는 마운드가 삼성처럼 강력하지 못하다. 그러나 더 큰 문제는 투타의 엇박자다. 마운드가 안정되면 타선가 말썽이고, 타선이 터지면 마운드가 무너지길 반복했다. 약팀의 전형적인 모습이 바로 투타의 엇박자다. ▲ 비난 레퍼토리
KIA와 롯데는 전국적인 인기구단이다. KIA는 최근 들어 광주의 야구열기가 예전에 비해 사그라졌지만 그래도 여전히 한국시리즈 9회 우승의 신화가 살아있는 곳이다. 더욱이 수도권에서 대규모 팬들을 끌어 모으는 관중 동원력을 지녔다. 롯데는 더 이상 설명이 필요 없다. 롯데의 성공이 곧 프로야구의 흥행 성공이었으니 말 다한 셈. 그러나 KIA와 롯데 같은 전국구 인기구단은 기대만큼 성적을 내지 못할 때 팬들의 집중적인 비난을 피할 길이 없다. 쏟아지는 비에 부랴부랴 우산을 써도 옷이 흠뻑 젖을 만큼 비난의 강도가 세기 때문이다. 온·오프라인에서의 성토는 예삿일이며 경기장에서 원색적인 현수막을 내걸어 직접적으로 불만을 표출하기도 한다. 팬들은 일차적으로 선수들을 비난한다. 그라운드에서 보여 지는 것은 선수들의 플레이기 때문이다. 그 다음 타깃이 바로 감독이다. KIA 서정환 감독과 롯데 강병철 감독은 올해 가장 많은 원성과 성토를 사고 있는 감독들이다. 특히 29일 사직구장에서는 강병철 감독의 선수기용을 놓고 팬들이 원색적인 항의 문구를 담은 현수막을 내걸어 구단 관계자들과 마찰을 빚기도 했다. 감독의 선수기용과 작전 하나하나가 팬들 사이에서 도마 위에 오르는 것. 잘할 때는 모든 것이 좋고 완벽해 보인다. 그러나 못할 때는 모든 것이 엉망인 것처럼 보인다. 지금 현재로서는 서 감독과 강 감독이 무엇을 하더라도 비난을 면키 어려운 게 현실이다. 그리고 이제 팬들은 구단에게까지 타깃의 비난의 범위를 늘렸다. 광주구장에 걸린 구장과 관련한 현수막은 구단을 넘어 광주광역시에 대한 요구이기도 하다. 광주구장은 7개 구장 유일하게 매트형 인조잔디를 쓰고 있다. 마치 콘크리트 바닥처럼 딱딱하다. 올해 KIA에 부상선수들이 속출하고 있는 것은 어쩌면 우연이나 불운이 아닐지도 모른다. 롯데도 상황은 크게 다르지 않다. 29일 팬들의 항의 현수막에 적힌 구단 프런트에 대한 비판문구는 섬뜩하게 느껴질 정도로 강렬했다. 예부터 롯데는 투자에 인색하고, 운영방식에 있어 지탄을 받아왔다. ▲ 우연은 없다
‘888857’ 비밀번호가 아니다. 롯데의 지난 6년간 팀 성적이다. 롯데만큼은 아니지만 KIA도 최근 몇 년간 침체에서 벗어나지 못하고 있다. 2002~2004년, 3년 연속 포스트시즌에서 밀린 KIA는 2005년엔 창단 이래 처음으로 최하위 수모를 당했다. 지난해 4위로 포스트시즌에 진출했지만, 올해 최하위로 처지고 말았다. 다행히 아직 시즌은 절반가량 남아있다. 비록 지금은 순위권에서 처졌지만 반전의 여지가 사라진 것은 아니다. 하지만 지금 상황에서 대반전을 기대하는 것은 차라리 요행에 가깝다. 오히려 근본적인 문제를 뜯어고치지 못한 상황에서 대반전을 이룬다면 문제는 원점이 되어버린다. KIA는 구장 문제부터 확실하게 해야 한다. 딱딱한 인조잔디는 선수들의 적극성을 결여시키는 것은 물론, 선수들을 부상의 늪으로 밀어뜨리고 있다. KIA 선수들의 플레이가 근성 없어 보이는 것은 분명 인조잔디가 한 몫하고 있다. 롯데 역시 그간의 잘못된 관행과 방식을 뿌리째 뽑고 개선할 필요가 없지 않다. 선수와 감독의 탓으로만 돌리기엔 이처럼 오래 하위권에 머물 수 없다. 의외성이 많은 스포츠가 야구지만, 적어도 한국프로야구는 의외성이 많이 줄었다. 삼성은 한국시리즈 2연패를 차지했고, 현대와 두산은 투자가 이뤄지지 않아도 어떻게든 성적을 내고 있다. 하지만 결코 우연이 아니다. 삼성은 효율적인 투자의 효과를 뽑았고, 현대와 두산은 오랜 시간 축적된 전통의 힘이 발휘되고 있다. 지난해 6위였던 SK가 올해 줄곧 단독선두를 달리며 성적과 인기라는 두 마리 토끼를 잡고 있는 것도 전면적인 구단 개편과 변화가 결정적으로 작용했다. 지난해 최하위 LG도 SK와 마찬가지 과정을 걷고 있다. 전통이 흐지부지해졌고, 이렇다 할 투자의 효과를 보지 못하고 있는 KIA와 롯데는 가장 변화가 절실한 팀들이다. 언제까지 팬들에게 기다림만을 강요할 수 없는 노릇이다. 프로야구단도 자선단체가 아니지만 그들을 응원하는 팬들도 결코 자원봉사자가 아니기 때문이다. ☞ '초시계는 반환점을 돌았다' 롯데 리오스<상> 데일리안 스포츠/ 이상학 객원기자 - Copyrights ⓒ (주)이비뉴스, 무단 전재-재배포 금지 - 데일리안 스포츠 편집 김태훈 기자 [ktwsc28@dailian.co.kr] |
